Blair Police Sergeant Tom Byrne received the DOAN 2024 Officer of the Year Award in a ceremony in Kearney on Tuesday. Byrne was among the officers responded to an incident in Blair last year in which there were two gunshot victims- a wounded woman holding a baby and a deceased man. Byrne successfully stopped the bleeding wounds on the woman. When the woman arrived at the hospital, doctors said the woman would have likely died if Byrne had not taken life saving measures In addition, Byrne arrived at a residential fire this past year in which an elderly woman was rescued.
