Bellevue Volleyball splits matches on final day of GoSarpy.com Classic

BELLEVUE, Neb. — The 14th-ranked Bellevue University volleyball team split a pair of matches on Saturday on the final day of competition at the GoSarpy.com Classic. The Bruins won the opener over Lindsey Wilson College, 3-1 (25-14, 23-25, 25-20, 25-20), before dropping the finale, 3-0 (25-21, 25-22, 25-15) to 13th-ranked Oklahoma Wesleyan University. The 19-team tournament was played at the Lied Activity Center in Bellevue. 

The Bruins move to 4-2 on the season after the split.  

Bellevue will head across town next weekend to compete in the College of Saint Mary Tournament on Aug. 30-31 in Omaha, Neb. BU will battle Saint Francis (Ind.) at 10 a.m. on Friday before meeting No. 4-ranked Concordia (Neb.) at 2 p.m. The Bruins will complete the tournament on Saturday with a 9 a.m. match against Mount Mercy. 

Bellevue 3, Lindsey Wilson 1

Eve Fountain recorded her second-straight double-double, leading the Bruins with 19 kills and 16 digs along with four service aces, including the final two to end the match. Kealy Kiviniemi added 11 kills on .385 hitting while adding three blocks. Sidney Sledge was the third Bruin in double figures, finishing with 10 kills on .280 hitting. 

Taylan Keefer anchored the BU defense, finishing with a match-high 22 digs as the Bruins outhit LWC, .270 to .217. Chloe Cloud produced a match-high five blocks along with four kills. Bellevue out-blocked the Blue Raiders to 10-5 in the victory. 

Lindsey Wilson was paced by Elisa Burzio’s 12 kills on .375 hitting. Ola Wyrzkowska and Savannah Pippins chipped in with 10 kills apiece for the Blue Raider offense.  

Oklahoma Wesleyan 3, Bellevue 0

Fountain led the Bruins with nine kills, eight digs, and a pair of assists. Haley Fleischman hit .538 with eight kills in 13 attempts. Mila Aiwohi (16) and Victoria Runyan (17) combined for 33 assists while directing the BU offense to a .226 hitting efficiency. 

Keefer registered 12 digs to lead the BU defense. 

The Eagles, who hit 291 and held a 56-40 advantage in digs, were paced by Evelyn Rohrberg’s 10 kills, while Maria Luisa Caycedo garnered a match-high 21 digs.
