The Beef Checkoff is looking to partner with eligible beef industry organizations to carry out promotion, research, and education work. The Cattlemen’s Beef Board (CBB) is inviting all eligible organizations to submit funding requests for programs and projects starting from October 1, 2023.
To qualify, organizations must be national non-profit entities governed by the beef industry and meet certain criteria. These criteria include being a non-profit organization according to sections 501(c) (3), (5), or (6) of the Internal Revenue Code, having a national board of directors representing the cattle or beef industry, and having been active for at least two years.
Interested organizations must submit a first-round draft of their funding request, called an Authorization Request (AR), to the CBB by June 30, 2023. During the Summer Business Meeting in San Diego, California, held from July 24 to 26, 2023, organizations will have the opportunity to present their plans and funding requests to the Beef Checkoff program committees.
The number of contracting organizations and the available funding varies each year based on the annual Checkoff collection. In 2022, the Beef Promotion Operating Committee (BPOC) approved nine contractors for the 2023 fiscal year, receiving a total of $38.5 million. The deadline for draft Authorization Requests is June 21, 2023, and final ARs must be submitted to the CBB office by August 7, 2023, to be considered by the BPOC. Expenses incurred by organizations will be reimbursed on a cost-recovery basis, and organizations are expected to specify estimated costs in their Authorization Requests.
