An 80-year-old regional seed brand is set to be phased out and put under the Channel umbrella.

Farm Progress reports that Bayer will be consolidating its regional offerings under a new Channel brand, resulting in fewer company names.

The company announced that its 10 regional brand names, including Kruger Seeds, Stone Seed Group, Fontanelle Hybrids, Lewis Hybrids, Stewart Seeds, Hubner Seed, Gold Country Seed, Rea Hybrids, Specialty Hybrids, and Jung Seed Genetics, will be phased out beginning in 2024. However, the Dekalb or Asgrow brands will not be affected.

Chris Turner, the head of U.S. Crop Science at Bayer, told Farm Progress that the new structure provides simplicity, enhances their overall strategy, and allows them to be more focused with the new Channel brand across the Corn Belt.

For the 2024 growing season, farmers will not see any changes to regional brands, and they will still be able to purchase the same products from their dealers.

However, the transition to the new Channel brand will begin after the 2024 season. Local sales teams will assess both the regional brand and Channel brand product portfolios and select which products to put into production for the 2025 season.
