Funeral services for Janet R. Meyer age 89 of Doge, NE will be on Tuesday, November 7, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Schuyler, NE. A luncheon will follow the service with interment in St. Matthew’s Cemetery rural North Bend. Visitation will be on Monday from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at the Minnick Funeral Chapel in Dodge, NE, there will be an American Legion Auxiliary Service at 5:00 p.m.. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church.
Janet passed away on Thursday, November 2, 2023 at Dunklau Gardens in Fremont, NE.
Janet Rae Meyer was born on October 31, 1934 in Norfolk, NE to Harry and Emma (Kriz) Wolsleger. Janet graduated from Dodge High School in 1952. After graduation, she worked as a nurses’ aide in West Point and later at the Ordinance Plant in Mead, NE.
On June 19, 1954, she was united in marriage to Paul H. Meyer at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Snyder, NE. The couple farmed south of Dodge, where Janet was an active farm wife. Janet later had worked at the bowling alley in Dodge, did telemarketing in North Bend, played the organ and piano for various churches in the area, and gave piano lessons. She was not one to sit still as she took piano and organ classes at Midland College in Fremont and regularly attended bible study in Fremont, NE.
Janet was a member of St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church and its ladies aide until it’s closing at which time she became a member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Schuyler. She was a member of Dodge American Legion Auxiliary Post #122 since 1971, and served as Secretary for many years. Janet was a former 4-H Leader and loved to garden, cook, canning, and sewing. She loved to babysit her grandchildren and was a driving force in getting Paul and herself to as many athletic and social events as possible to support their grandchildren.
