Ina K. Welding, 95 years, of West Point, NE passed away Friday, November 12, 2021 at St. Joseph’s Hillside Villa in West Point.

Funeral Mass will be 10:30 A.M., Thursday, November 18, 2021 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in West Point. Father James Weeder will officiate. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5 P.M. to 7 P.M. with a rosary starting at 7 P.M. all at church. Private interment will take place at St. Michael Cemetery in West Point.

Memorials may be directed to the West Point Community Theater, Sunshine Center, and the West Point Volunteer Fire & Rescue.

Ina was born on January 3, 1926 to Arvid Sr. and Bertha (Pates) Samuelson on the family farm in Cuming county, near Lyons, NE. She attended school district 58 and she attended West Point High School. During high school, she met Harold “Deke” Welding. After graduating in 1943, Ina worked as a teacher for a short time, then at the Mead Ordinance plant, where she operated a forklift to load bombs on boxcars during WWII.

On December 12, 1945, Ina married Harold “Deke” Welding at St, Mary’s Catholic Church in West Point. They were married for over 60 years. To their union, 10 children were born. From 1971 to 1988, Ina and Deke resided in the Cuming County Courthouse during Deke’s time as Sheriff. During that time, Ina tended to inmates and ran dispatch for the county. Ina continued to work at the dispatch until retiring in 1998.

Ina lived a life of service. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary, and donated gallons of blood over the years. Ina also participated in Relay for Life and was a proud cancer survivor. She also spent much of her spare time sewing, embroidering, attending the Sunshine Center, learning her family genealogy, and baking her angel food cakes, chocolate rolls, breads and famous biscuits for family gatherings.

Ina was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Deke; daughter, Mary; sons, Mark, John, and Michael; granddaughter, Dawn Welding; sisters, Ila Samuelson and Lucille (Dennis) Poledna; twin brothers, Arnie Samuelson and Arvid Jr.(Imogene) Samuelson.

She is survived by her daughter, Cheryl; sons, Patrick, Scott, Danny, Todd (Shelly), and Kerry; grandchildren, Stephanie (Jeff) Mcatee, Brett (Melissa) Welding, Seth Welding; great-grandchildren, Addison and Carly Welding; and sister-in-law, Mila Jean Samuelson.
