George W. Gall, 86, of Norfolk

Funeral service for George W. Gall, 86, of Norfolk, will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, July 19, 2024 at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Norfolk. Father Vincent Germace will be officiating the service. Following the service, a funeral luncheon will be held at the St. Mary’s Parish Hall. Interment will be held at the Clarkson Catholic Cemetery, Clarkson, NE. Visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 p.m., Thursday, also at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Norfolk. Rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m., Thursday, at the church. Military rites will be conducted by the American Legion Post 16, V.F.W. Post 1644, and the United States Army Honor Guard. George passed away on Monday, July 15, 2024 at The Meadows Assisted Living Facility in Norfolk. Stonacek Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

George Gall was born on August 30, 1937 to William Sr. and Emma (Svitak) Gall on a farm northwest of Howells, NE. He went to country school and St. Peter & Paul Catholic Schools in Howells. In 1948, the family moved to a farm northwest of Clarkson and he finished school at District 29 completing the 8th Grade in 1951. George then helped on the family farm. George joined the National Guard in 1954 and served in the Norfolk National Guard until 1960 with an honorary discharge as a Sargeant. He then served in the Army Reserves for two years with an honorary discharge as Sargeant in 1962.

George met the love of his life, Henrietta Stuhr, on December 31, 1954 (New Year’s Eve) at a dance at Kings Ballroom in Norfolk, NE. They got married on Tuesday, September 4, 1956 at St. John’s The Baptist Catholic Church in Petersburg, NE. During their marriage, they had four children, David, Doris, Michael and Lisa. They lived on a farm northwest of Clarkson and farmed for 29 years with sons, David and Mike. On March 1, 1985, they had a farm sale and moved to Clarkson in 1986. After the farm sale, George started The Gall Crop Agency where he sold crop insurance and did crop adjusting. He did this for 21 years. The business was sold in 2007. George and Henrietta moved to Norfolk in 2008 where they enjoyed their retirement years. In September of 2022, they moved to The Meadows Senior Living in Norfolk, NE.

George was active with the St. Cyril & Methodist Catholic Church in Clarkson where he served as trustee when the new Catholic Church was built in 1976. He later served on the parish council and was a member of the Holy Name Society and the Knights of Columbus. Her served two terms as a Grand Knight with the Knights of Columbus. George also served on the Farmers Union Board in Clarkson for nine years.

His religion and the Catholic Church were very important to George especially the last four years of his life where his health started to decline. You could find him praying, saying rosaries and blessing himself with Holy Water in the morning and at night before he went to bed.

George cherished his wife, Henrietta, his family, grandchildren and great grandchildren. His greatest enjoyment was getting together with the family. He loved to travel, play cards, listen to polka music and go to dances. They would also go on bus rides to casinos. Upon moving to Norfolk, they joined the Good Time Bunch where they would go for coffee on Saturday mornings and eat at Big Red on Wednesday evenings.

George is survived by his wife, Henrietta, four children, Dave (Deb) Gall of Norfolk, NE; Doris (Jeff) Doerneman, Gilbert, AZ; Mike Gall of Columbus, NE; Lisa (Tony) Drueppel of Schuyler, NE; fourteen grandchildren, and 25 great grandchildren.
He is survived by seven siblings: Tony Gall of Clarkson, NE; Bernadine Humlicek of Norfolk, NE; Bill (Marie) Gall of Clarkson, NE; Kathy (Marvin) Keefover of Rochester, MI; John (Donna) Gall of Norfolk, NE; Eileen Obteshka of Newport, OR; and Alvin (Donna) Gall of Clarkson, NE. In-laws: Ann Beckman, Lyle & Betty Mackel; Sylvester & Shirley Stuhr, Dee Stuhr, Paul & Jody Eisenmenger; Tim & Helen Larson; Don and Dody Dover and many nephews and nieces.

George was preceded in death by his parents, William Sr. & Emma Gall, parents-in-laws, Lawrence & Mary Stuhr, daughter-in-law Rose (Remington) Gall; brothers, Stanley Gall and Robert Gall. In Laws: Adolph Humlicek, Tony Stuhr, Raymond Stuhr, Terry Obteshka, Agnes Gall, Rose Ann Gall, Regina Gall, Lawrence and Ellen Stuhr, Leonard Beckman.
