Duane H. Benne, age 94 of West Point, NE passed away peacefully Wednesday, December 7, 2022 at Methodist Hospital in Omaha NE. Services with military honors will be held at a later date with burial in Mount Hope Cemetery in West Point.
Duane was born April 12, 1928 to Harvey and Margaret (Jurgenson) Benne in West Point. He was raised on a farm North of West Point, baptized and confirmed at Grace Lutheran Church in West Point, and graduated from West Point High School in 1947. On December 10, 1950 Duane was united in marriage to Donna (Jerman) at Grace Lutheran Church and on December 10 of this year would have celebrated 72 years of marriage. They have one daughter, Cindy.
Duane was drafted in the U.S. Army and served in the Korean War from 1951-1953. The couple made their home in West Point where he served on the Volunteer Fire Department over 25 years and was active at Grace Lutheran Church serving on various boards and the church council. Duane was a meat cutter his entire career starting at the Farmers Union and retiring from Graybeal’s Grocery in 2004. He enjoyed many activities including golf, bowling, shooting pool, playing cards, traveling and Husker games, but his favorite times were spent with family.
Duane is survived by his wife Donna; daughter Cindy (Al) Stigge of Elkhorn, NE; grandchildren Lindsay (Travis) Powers of Omaha, NE and Jennifer Stigge of Irving, TX. Also surviving are sisters-in-law Sally Benne and Janet (Clarence) Padrnos of Omaha, NE and brother-in-law Joseph Jerman of Colorado.
He was proceeded in death by his parents; brother, Dale Benne; and numerous sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.
