Creston crop, dairy farmer uses innovation, on-farm research to grow his operation | 2022 Fridays in the Field | Ep. 2

May 13th, 2022

Bob Larson of Larson Farms near Creston, Nebraska grows corn, soybeans and alfalfa and runs a 350-head dairy operation.

Larson’s operation is innovative in a number of ways. He was one of the first producers in the state to adopt the robotic milking technology, and he conducts his own on-farm research trials.

Larson said the number one goal of his on-farm research is to increase return on investment. In the past, his experiments explored using plant growth regulators and applying nitrogen at different times in the growing season.

This year, Larson said he’ll do on-farm research with seed treatments and mid-season fertilizer.

In this year’s season of Fridays in the Field, Chad Moyer will follow along with Larson to learn more about his on-farm research and robotic dairy.
