66 chemo treatments and still going: Rural Nebraskan fights stage four colon cancer

March 20th, 2023

TJ Brede can be described as tough, gritty, or perhaps just plain stubborn. After all, she is a rural Nebraskan and that description tends to fit many rural Nebraskans.

At age 42, TJ was diagnosed with stage four colon cancer. Today, 66 chemo treatments and counting, she said it’s her mission to encourage others to get screened early.

Adults across the United States are being diagnosed with colon and rectal cancers at younger ages, and now 1 in 5 new cases are among those in their early 50s or younger, according to the Nebraska Cancer Coalition.
