As the Fourth of July comes and goes, so too does wheat harvest for many farmers.

As of the latest USDA Crop Progress Report – which reflects conditions for the week ending June 30, 2024 – winter wheat harvested in Nebraska was 13% complete, ahead of 2% last year and 5% for the five-year average.

Bill Landon farms near Greenwood, Nebraska. He said he finished up wheat harvest for the year with great yields, at an average of 94 bushels per acre, and great test weight.

“This year, the test weight was just fantastic. It was averaging around that 62 pounds, so that really helped out on the yield, too,” Landon said.

Landon also grows corn and soybeans on his operation.
