The University of Nebraska–Lincoln has been selected to establish the Heartland Regional Foods Business Center.
The Heartland Regional Foods Business Center is among 12 national centers the USDA will establish to serve all areas of the country.
USDA Under Secretary for Marketing and Regulatory Programs Jenny Lester-Moffitt hosted a round table discussion on UNL’s East Campus to discuss the center.
The Heartland center will serve Nebraska, Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma and Iowa.
The project is not to create a physical brick-and-mortar “center,” but rather an online platform to connect and strengthen locally grown food systems.
This $25 million award is among the largest ever received by the university.
