Colorado Governor Jared Polis has declared March 20th as “MeatOut Day” as a way to promote meatless diets.

Not to be out done, Nebraska Gov. Pete Ricketts wants to get the message out about how important livestock is to Nebraska and how important meat is on the table.

So, to counter that, he said he will be declaring March 20th as “Meat is on the Menu Day” in Nebraska. He said his proclamation will “encourage all Nebraskans to eat their share of Nebraska beef, pork or chicken that day to help support our family farmers and ranchers and remind people just how important meat is as part of a healthy diet.”

Gov. Ricketts says “MeatOut Days” are driven by what he calls “radical activists” that are essentially “anti-animal agriculture”. He describes beef as a great part of a healthy diet.

He says livestock overall has been a prominent part of Nebraska’s state history and culture and that agriculture is the state’s #1 industry.
