Heartwell Renewables, a unique joint venture between The Love’s Family of Companies and Cargill broke ground recently on a new renewable diesel processing facility, the only entity of its kind, in Hastings, Nebraska, marking the start of construction for the project.

The new facility is projected to produce 80 million gallons of biodiesel annually from beef tallow and will support the growing demand for green fuels.

The company anticipates the project to be completed by in summer 2024. The new Hastings facility is expected to create 50 new jobs.

About the project

·       Musket, part of the Love’s Family of Companies, will be the sole purchaser of the renewable diesel produced by Heartwell Renewables in Hastings.

·       Cargill’s protein business operates three facilities within truck or rail range of Hastings that will provide beef tallow, mitigating the risk of supply interruption to the facility.

·       The production process makes renewable diesel chemically identical to petroleum diesel. Renewable diesel packs the same performance as conventional diesel with drastic improvements in environmental sustainability due to a steep drop in emissions. Renewable diesel is one of the cleanest fuels available today.
