NEBRASKA: For the week ending August 25, 2024, there were 6.1 days suitable for fieldwork, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service. Topsoil moisture supplies rated 13% very short, 30% short, 54% adequate, and 3% surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies rated 12% very short, 33% short, 52% adequate, and 3% surplus.
Field Crops Report: Corn condition rated 5% very poor, 7% poor, 20% fair, 43% good, and
25% excellent. Corn dough was 87%, near 91% last year and 88% for the five-year average.
Dented was 58%, near 54% last year, and ahead of 51% average. Mature was 17%, ahead of 8%
last year and 5% average.
Soybean condition rated 2% very poor, 6% poor, 21% fair, 52% good, and 19% excellent.
Soybeans setting pods was 96%, ahead of 89% last year, and near 92% average. Dropping leaves
was 8%, near 7% last year and 6% average.
Sorghum condition rated 0% very poor, 4% poor, 19% fair, 49% good, and 28% excellent.
Sorghum headed was 98%, near 94% last year, and ahead of 93% average. Coloring was 35%,
near 39% last year and 36% average. Mature was 1%, equal to both last year and average.
Dry edible bean condition rated 4% very poor, 6% poor, 27% fair, 46% good, and 17% excellent.
Dry edible beans blooming was 96%, near 95% last year and 97% average. Setting pods was
89%, ahead of 81% last year, and near 87% average. Dropping leaves was 10%, ahead of 4% last
year, and near 9% average.
Pasture and Range Report: Pasture and range conditions rated 10% very poor, 19% poor, 31%
fair, 29% good, and 11% excellent.

KANSAS: For the week ending August 25, 2024, there were 6.2 days suitable for fieldwork, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service. Topsoil moisture supplies rated 10% very short, 42% short, 45% adequate, and 3% surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies rated 12% very short, 45% short, 42% adequate, and 1% surplus.
Field Crops Report: Corn condition rated 9% very poor, 16% poor, 30% fair, 35% good, and
10% excellent. Corn dough was 91%, ahead of 86% for both last year and the five-year average.
Dented was 64%, ahead of 59% last year and 56% average. Mature was 20%, near 16% last year,
and ahead of 12% average.
Soybean condition rated 4% very poor, 10% poor, 26% fair, 50% good, and 10% excellent.
Soybeans blooming was 94%, near 95% last year and 93% average. Setting pods was 79%, near
82% last year and 77% average. Dropping leaves was 2%, near 5% last year and 3% average.
Sorghum condition rated 7% very poor, 14% poor, 37% fair, 37% good, and 5% excellent.
Sorghum headed was 88%, ahead of 82% last year, and near 84% average. Coloring was 38%,
ahead of 30% both last year and average. Mature was 6%, near 3% last year, and ahead of 1%
average.
Cotton condition rated 4% very poor, 14% poor, 27% fair, 44% good, and 11% excellent. Cotton
setting bolls was 95%, ahead of 88% last year and 84% average. Bolls opening was 18%, near
21% last year, but ahead of 13% average.
Pasture and Range Report: Pasture and range conditions rated 7% very poor, 15% poor, 35%
fair, 38% good, and 5% excellent.
