There are few accessories more powerful than the cowboy hat.

Trent Johnson, Creative Vision Officer and owner of Greeley Hat Works has been harnessing this power for nearly 30 years.

“I look at the hat as an extension of your personality,” Johnson said. “If you feel comfortable and confident in it, you’re going to make a good hat look great just by the way you carry yourself.”

Johnson, the 4th owner of Greeley Hat Works, purchased the brand after 3 and a half years of being an apprentice. Turns out, hatmaking was in his blood.

After ruling out business school, Johnson decided to pursue a career as a hatmaker. From there, he began attending night classes at his local small business development center to learn how to write a business plan.

These days, you can find Greeley hats adorning the heads of thousands of cowboys and western enthusiasts including Miss Rodeo America, past presidents, and even Kevin Costner on the hit television show, Yellowstone.

When asked about the advantages of purchasing a Greeley hat, Johnson’s answer was simple.

“We start with better [hat] bodies,” he said. “The quality comes from the craftsmanship.”
