A Panhandle farmer said he’s grateful for the abundant rain he’s received this year but said with every rain comes a chance for damaging severe weather.

Ross Miller, a third generation farmer of Miller Farms in Sioux County, estimates their fields have received 10 to 12 inches of rain in the last two months, which is far more than what that area typically receives.

Fortunately, his fields have stayed clear of destructive hail. However, reports of total crop destruction were reported between Minatare and Bayard.

Miller said the corn looks exceptional and is ahead of schedule so far. Wheat cutting will take place the end of July followed by dry bean harvest around Labor Day.
