Heavy rainfall across much of Nebraska slightly eased the area of the state in extreme to exceptional drought.

According to the latest U.S. Drought Monitor map released on Thursday, counties including York, Seward, Polk, Butler, Platte, Colfax and Dodge saw slight reductions from exceptional drought (D4) to extreme drought (D3).

Alongside the recent precipitation, however, numerous counties in Nebraska also endured destructive hailstorms and powerful wind. Many reports indicate that some fields will not recover from the damage this growing season.

Although more improvement than deterioration occurred last week, exceptional drought (D4) remained over a few patches in eastern Nebraska and some parts of southeastern Kansas, portions of west-central and north-central Kansas.
