The Buffalo Bill Rodeo wrapped up on Saturday, June 15 in North Platte after four days of intense rodeo action. Behind the scenes, longtime Buffalo Bill Rodeo Committee member Shelli Arensdorf made sure all was running smoothly.

Her involvement with the Buffalo Bill Rodeo began in the 90s, when she was enlisted to run the scorebord during each performance. At that time, she coordinated the Nebraska State Rodeo Association Finals and was identified by the Buffalo Bill Rodeo Committee as a potential asset to the group.

In 2005, Arensdorf officially became a member of the committee. Since then, she has served in various capacities, even serving two separate stints as co-chairman.

Arensdorf, who spent her childhood and adult years climbing through the rodeo ranks, says giving back to the sport and community is her favorite part.

“I grew up rodeoing,” said Arensdorf. “Giving back and being connected to the sport is rewarding for me.”

When it came time to select a favorite memory of the Buffalo Bill Rodeo, Arensdorf couldn’t pick just one.

“Every year it is just such a good rodeo,” she said. “There is a reason we are in the ProRodeo Hall of Fame.”

With so many organizations and community groups struggling to attract dedicated volunteers, Arensdorf’s call to action is more relevant than ever.

“If you are asked to be on a committee, show up for the right reasons,” Arensdorf said. “Show up and do the job.”
