Reagan McIntyre is a force to be reckoned with. The Grand Island, Nebraska, cowgirl has proven year over year that she is indeed, that good.

With the first Nebraska high school rodeo of the fall season on the horizon, her goals are bigger than ever.

The 3x Nebraska High School Rodeo Association All-Around Cowgirl wasted no time leaving her mark on the association. Right out of the gate she came out swinging, winning the all-around title her freshman year. She has completed the feat two times since, and garnered National High School Finals Rodeo qualifications in multiple events along the way.

When it comes to quantifying McIntyre’s success, the numbers speak for themselves. The multi-event athlete competes in goat tying, pole bending, barrel racing, breakaway roping, and team roping. She has earned 10 qualifications to the National High School Finals Rodeo in her respective events. At the state level, she has earned four reserve champion titles and three state champion titles, excluding her all-around honors.

With quick math, her high school rodeo performance alone has earned her a total of seven trophy saddles.

For McIntyre, rodeo is more than a hobby. It is an outlet.

With less than one month between the end of the 2024 National High School Finals Rodeo and the start of the fall high school rodeo season, she took no time off, using this time to enter amateur rodeos across the state. In fact, she is currently leading the breakaway roping standings in the Mid-States Rodeo Association.

There are no “days off” when you have goals as big as she does.

McIntyre attributes much of her success to the encouragement and support she has received from her parents, Karen and Jeremy. Her familial support extends to her siblings, who all rodeo as well. She shares the high school rodeo arena with her sister, Emerson, who is a sophomore. Her brother Truett is a seventh grader, and her brother Easton is a fourth grader.

“I grew up in the arena,” said McIntyre. “I would not want to be doing anything else.”

As the accomplished athlete heads into her senior year, she hopes to pull off a feat only one Nebraska high school rodeo athlete has done before: win four straight all-around titles.

The only cowgirl to do so was the indomitable force Melinda Harms Mattson, who won all-around cowgirl honors every year from 1982 to 1985.

With experience and hard work on her side, McIntyre’s goals are in focus.

“I’d like to go after the titles I won last year and maybe add a few more,” she said.
