SEWARD, Neb. – Though the 2019-20 golf season was not played to its completion, the GPAC made the decision to award conference champions and all-conference honors based on fall 2019 competition. As announced on Wednesday (May 13), Concordia University senior Murphy Sears and sophomore Kendra Placke have been named to the All-GPAC women’s golf team. Sears has earned the award for the fourth time in her career and Placke for the second time.
A Crete High School product, Sears has been one of the best ever for head coach Brett Muller’s women’s program. When this past fall concluded, Sears sat tied for 14th in the GPAC (83-86–169; +25). She shot an 18-hole average of 84.4 as a senior. Over four years, Sears played in 49 career rounds (31 events) and placed in the top 10 of 14 tournaments. She recorded a career low round of 73 at the CSM/Midland Invite in 2018 and was the tournament champion. Her GPAC finishes in previous years were 11th, eighth and 14th, respectively.
Placke has hopes of someday becoming a GPAC champion. The Seward High School alum placed sixth in the GPAC (78-84–162; +18) as a sophomore. She tied for fifth in the conference as a freshman in immediately becoming the program’s top player. In 20 career collegiate rounds, Placke owns a scoring average of 81.65. A high point of the fall of 2019 was Placke’s individual title at the Nebraska Wesleyan Fall Classic, an event the Bulldogs also won as a team. This past season, Placke also placed second at the Midland Invite and fourth at the Matthew Goette Classic.
The top 15 on the GPAC individual leaderboard earned all-conference honors for both men and women. Senior Tylar Samek was Concordia’s top men’s player. He tied for 20th in the GPAC (80-81–161; +17). From a team perspective, the Bulldogs turned in 2019-20 GPAC finishes of third on the women’s side and seventh on the men’s side.
