BC women’s volleyball struggled to find a rhythm against Mount Marty Saturday afternoon in GPAC action but did manage to come away with a 3-1 win over the Lancers. The Chargers are now 13-7 on the season and 3-3 in GPAC play.

“We got off to a slow start tonight,” said head coach Lindsey Weatherford. “A win is a win, but I would like to see better play right off the bat, rather than waiting to get going.”

The first set was the only game decided by more than two points as the Chargers won 25-18. The teams went back-and-forth until an 18-18 tie, when the Cliff went on a 7-0 run to end the set.

Set two went to the Lancers 26-24. That game went back-and-forth as well, with neither team leading by more than three points at any time. The Chargers came back to win the third set 25-23 to take a 2-1 lead in the match.

The fourth set of the afternoon seemed to be an easy win for BC as the team got out to an 8-1 lead and led 16-6 before the Lancers clawed back to a 24-24 tie. BC then took advantage of a Lancer service error and an ace serve from Delaney Meyer to end the match.

Tyra Blue and Grace Hanno led the Chargers with nine kills each. Analyse Stapleton had seven kills and took part in eight blocks. Grace Whitlaw added six kills and had nine block assists. Maureen Imrie had six kills from her setter position as well as 13 assists.

Delaney Meyer had 26 assists to go with seven digs. Hanno tallied a team-high 18 digs and Cassie Clark added 15.

Elizabeth Watchorn recorded 13 kills for Mount Marty. Gabby Ruth was also in double digits with 11 K’s. Amber Miller had 32 assists and Molly Brinkman notched 21 digs.

Next up for the Chargers is #19 Dordt. The Defenders will visit the Newman Flanagan Center on Wednesday night for a 7:30 match.
