LINCOLN, Neb. – A man who set fires that destroyed the lincoln home where his ex-girlfriend lived has been imprisoned.
Lancaster County District Court records say 40-year-old Dennis Prokopec was sentenced Thursday to four years in prison and credited for 248 days already served in custody. He’d pleaded no contest to a felony arson charge after prosecutors dropped a burglary charge.
Investigators say Prokopec had been harassing the woman since they broke up. He got into the home on Nov. 29 while she was out of town and the homeowner and his girlfriend were at work. Investigators say Prokopec started several fires that
eventually grew and all but destroyed the house.
A few hours after the blaze, Prokopec denied to investigators that he had started it. Investigators noted at the time that he had burns on his nose and forehead and singed eyebrows.
