On 2/6/2024 at approximately 3:49 p.m. the York County Communications Center received a notification of a stolen vehicle potentially traveling through York County on Interstate 80. At approximately 3:53 p.m., a Deputy with the York County Sheriff’s Office located the vehicle as it was traveling westbound on Interstate 80 near mile marker 349.

The deputy attempted to initiate a traffic stop and the suspect vehicle proceeded to flee westbound. The vehicle was described as a 2024 Nissan Ultima. The suspect vehicle proceeded to travel westbound at speeds exceeding 120 miles per hour.

At numerous points in the pursuit the suspect vehicle was observed to drive westbound in the eastbound lanes of traffic and through the median and ditches at high rates of speed. The pursuit ended at approximately mile marker 332 when the suspect vehicle struck the rear of a tractor-trailer and became disabled.

The driver of the suspect vehicle was identified, however that information will not be released because the driver was a minor. The driver was transported from the scene by the Aurora Fire and Rescue to CHI St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island, Nebraska with non-life-threatening injuries.

The York County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the Nebraska State Patrol, the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office, the York County Communications Center, and Aurora Fire and Rescue for their assistance in this matter.
