Victim of fatality crash north of Miller identified

Miller, Neb. — One person died following a single-vehicle, rollover crash on Highway 183, approximately 7 miles north of Miller in northwest Buffalo County.

The Buffalo County Sheriff’s Office said in a media release from Captain Bob Anderson that it was alerted to the crash shortly after midnight Tuesday.

An updated release identified the victim as Brock Smedra, age 47, of Miller. Next of kin have been notified.

Captain Anderson said a northbound SUV left the road, entered the west ditch and rolled, ejecting the male driver, the lone occupant. The man was transported from the scene to Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney by AirCare medical helicopter where he was pronounced dead shortly thereafter.

The Buffalo County Attorney’s Office has ordered an autopsy.

Deputies were assisted by members of the Kearney Police Department, Miller Volunteer Fire and Rescue, Sumner (SEM) ambulance, Good Samaritan Hospital paramedics and AirCare medical helicopter. Investigation continues by the Kearney/Buffalo County Fatality Accident Investigation Team.
