USDA will not hold referendum on Soybean Promotion and Research Order

USDA will not hold referendum on Soybean Promotion and Research Order
October 1st, 2024 | RRN Staff

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has announced that a referendum on the Soybean Promotion and Research Order will not take place.

This decision follows the May 2024 Request for Referendum, held through USDA Farm Service Agency County offices, where only 207 valid requests were submitted by soybean producers across the country.

For a referendum to be initiated, 10 percent of the 413,358 soybean producers in the U.S., or 41,336 producers, needed to participate in the Request for Referendum.

The Soybean Promotion, Research, and Consumer Information Act mandates that a Request for Referendum be conducted every five years.

The most recent request took place in 2019, and this year’s vote showed continued support for the current order, which funds research and promotion activities aimed at strengthening soybean markets.
