According to Union Pacific Spokeswoman Robynn Tysver, an eastbound Union Pacific train carrying coal from Wyoming derailed about two miles southeast of Gothenburg. The incident happened around 7:30 a.m. About 30 coal cars derailed.

Tysver said Gothenburg Police Department was notified and no injuries were reported. The Nebraska State Patrol said the derailment did not impede any traffic.

Tysver said Union Pacific crews worked to remove impacted cars from the railroad’s right of way Thursday and quickly returned one of the three impacted tracks to service. The other two remaining tracks are expected to open to traffic sometime Friday.
