Norfolk, Neb. — The pilot of an airplane who died in a crash near the Norfolk airport on Monday has been identified as 37-year-old Phillip K. Widner of Bedford, Texas.
A release from the Norfolk Police Division says that he worked for Ameriflight and was delivering packages to Omaha in a twin-engine Beech C99. He had landed at Karl Stefan Airport at 7:09 p.m. and departed at 7:35 p.m. The crash occurred at approximately 7:39 p.m.
Norfolk police and firefighters, along with the Madison County Sheriff’s Office, responded to the crash shortly after and found that the twin-engine airplane had crashed shortly after takeoff.
There were several witnesses to the accident.
Federal aviation authorities were contacted and are expected to assist in determining the cause of the crash.
