A two-vehicle accident this morning in eastern Gosper County resulted in three injuries. It occurred around 8:30am at the intersection of Highway 23 and Road 434 or about a mile east of Smithfield.
Initial information from Nebraska State Patrol indicates a Chevrolet Malibu was traveling northbound on Road 434 and failed to yield at a stop sign. The Malibu entered the intersection and collided with a semi-tractor/tanker trailer.
The driver of the Malibu was life-flighted to CHI Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney. The passenger of the Malibu was transported to Phelps Memorial Health Center in Holdrege and then to Good Samaritan Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the semi was transported to Phelps Memorial with non-life-threatening injuries.
The highway was blocked for several hours due to the clean-up at the scene and the crash remains under investigation.
