Multiple Fatalities reported in two fires at Laurel homes

The Nebraska State Patrol is investigating two fires at houses in Laurel that left 4 people dead early Thursday morning.

Colonel John Bolduc spoke at a news conference Thursday afternoon, and said that just after 3:00 a.m. Cedar County 911 received a phone call about an explosion at a residence at 209 Elm Street in Laurel.

Fire Crews responded and found a person dead inside.

The Laurel Police Department, Cedar County Sheriff’s Office, and Nebraska State Patrol all responded to the scene.

While investigators were on the scene of the first residence, a second fire was reported a few blocks away at 503 Elm Street where 3 people were found dead.

Bolduc shares this lead on the suspect(s).

Accelerants are believed to have possibly been used in the fires.

The suspect or suspects could have potentially been burned.

Foul play is suspected in the deaths.

The identities of those involved are not being released at this time.
