May 31st, 2024 | rsjeklocha

Fleming, Colorado native, Riata Day, found her home in the Nebraska High School Rodeo Association. In fact, she took home a state championship title in the goat tying in 2019. These days, she is preparing to represent the University of Wyoming at the College National Finals Rodeo.

“This region is extremely tough in the goat tying,” Day said. “I knew when I came into the spring that it was all or nothing.”

Day’s qualification comes after placing third in the Central Rocky Mountain year-end standings behind Raelee Caldwell of Eastern Wyoming College in second, and Haiden Thompson of Gillette College in first.

With the CNFR on the horizon, Day’s nose is to the grindstone.

“I’ve been tying every day and am making sure I am physically and mentally capable of accomplishing my goals,” Day said. “My goal is to win the nation.”

Day began her college rodeo career at Northeastern Junior College before transferring to UW to complete her degree in agricultural business. She is currently working toward her masters degree, and hopes to go into financial planning after graduation.
