LINCOLN, Neb. May 6, 2024 – For the week ending May 5, 2024, there were 2.5 days suitable
for fieldwork, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service. Topsoil
moisture supplies rated 5% very short, 15% short, 68% adequate, and 12% surplus. Subsoil
moisture supplies rated 7% very short, 28% short, 56% adequate, and 9% surplus.

Field Crops Report: Corn planted was 31%, behind 49% last year and 48% for the five-year
average. Emerged was 7%, near 8% last year, and equal to average.
Soybeans planted was 18%, behind 30% last year and 28% average. Emerged was 1%, equal to
both last year and average.
Winter wheat condition rated 1% very poor, 4% poor, 28% fair, 54% good, and 13% excellent.
Winter wheat headed was 1%, equal to both last year and average.
Sorghum planted was 2%, near 5% last year and 4% average.
Oats condition rated 1% very poor, 1% poor, 30% fair, 63% good, and 5% excellent. Oats
planted was 90%, near 88% last year and 87% average. Emerged was 69%, ahead of 59% last
year and 57% average.

Pasture and Range Report: Pasture and range conditions rated 2% very poor, 6% poor, 22%
fair, 60% good, and 10% excellent.

MANHATTAN, Kan. May 6, 2024 – For the week ending May 5, 2024, there were 4.4 days
suitable for fieldwork, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service. Topsoil
moisture supplies rated 24% very short, 25% short, 40% adequate, and 11% surplus. Subsoil
moisture supplies rated 23% very short, 33% short, 39% adequate, and 5% surplus.

Field Crops Report: Winter wheat condition rated 12% very poor, 21% poor, 35% fair, 29%
good, and 3% excellent. Winter wheat jointed was 93%, well ahead of 73% last year, and ahead
of 80% for the five-year average. Headed was 54%, well ahead of 26% last year and 21%
average.
Corn planted was 51%, ahead of 43% both last year and average. Emerged was 29%, ahead of
17% both last year and average.
Soybeans planted was 22%, near 25% last year, but ahead of 15% average. Emerged was 5%,
equal to last year, and near 2% average.
Sorghum planted was 4%, near 3% last year and 2% average.
Cotton planted was 4%, near 2% last year and 6% average.

Pasture and Range Report: Pasture and range conditions rated 8% very poor, 16% poor, 39%
fair, 34% good, and 3% excellent.
