Crossroads Conference 2nd Round underway Monday

Nebraska Lutheran 44, East Butler 34

The 2024 CRC girls basketball tournament opened up Saturday with matchup with the 8th seed Nebraska Lutheran Knights and the 9th seeded East Butler Tigers. The game was close throughout the first half with the teams trading jump balls and points, neither side could get the upper hand with the Knights holding a 12-10 lead after the first and a 22-21 lead into the halftime break. The third quarter was big for Tenley Williamson and Nebraska Lutheran running out to a 10 point lead after the third quarter and holding that to a final score of 44-34. Nebraska Lutheran moves on to face the one seed Cross County in the last quarterfinal game Monday Night on KOOL Radio.

Nebraska Lutheran: Williamson had 10, Rebecca Hueske with 15. 


Meridian 40, BDS 31

The third game of the day saw a semifinal rematch from last years girls CRC and in a repeat the Meridian Mustangs defeated the BDS Eagles to advance. The game started with the Mustangs holding BDS scoreless through the first quarter plus three minutes while running out to a double digit lead. Meridian ended up taking a 24-10 lead into the halftime break. Hannah Kadel and Peyton Domeier warmed up in the second half but could not keep Meridian from punching back on offense with the teams playing relatively even the rest of the way with Meridian closing out a 40-31 win over the Eagles to set up a rematch of last year’s thrilling final with McCool Junction.

Boys
East Butler 51, Meridian 34

The boys side of the CRC tournament saw a very close game for the crowd at the York City Auditorium between the East Butler Tigers and Meridian Mustangs. The game was close throughout the first half with Mario Escobar (20) taking over for the Mustangs, but a team effort for the Tigers was enough to keep them close and even give them a lead going into the halftime break 18-17. The Mustangs and the Tigers traded blows in the third quarter with the Mustangs outscoring the Tigers by one leading to a tie up at 24 a piece going into the fourth quarter. East Butler used a suffocating full court press in the fourth quarter holding the Mustangs to nine points while exploding for 27 to take the 51-33 win. The Tigers now matchup with the one seeded McCool Junction Mustangs to open up the quarterfinals at York University on Monday.
