Cross County boys win 3rd place

(Lincoln,NE) – The Cross County boys basketball team ended their season on a high note Saturday morning at Lincoln Northwest High School , with a 59-50 Class C-2 consolation game win over Norfolk Catholic. The Cougars, playing without senior star Tanner Hollinger, fell behind early to the Knights, who bolted out to a 22-11 first-quarter lead. Cross County rebounded quickly in the second period, and took a 30-29 lead into halftime. Norfolk Catholic scored nine straight points to open the second half, but once again Cross County regained the momentum and held a 43-41 lead after three quarters. The Cougars then pulled away in the fourth quarter to put away the game and claim the 3rd place trophy. Cross County, who finished the season 24-6, had a balanced scoring attack in the contest – Alex Noyd scored 15 points, James Elgin had 14, Ashton Seim 13, and Thatcher Hanson scored 11. Norfolk Catholic, who finished the year 18-10, was led by Nolan Fennessy, who scored a game-high 17 points in the loss.
