BROOKLYN, N.Y.. – After a standout college basketball career at South Dakota State and Creighton, Aurora native Baylor Scheierman was selected as the 30th pick to the Boston Celtics in the 2024 NBA Draft on Wednesday at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y.

After three standout seasons at South Dakota State, including 2022 Summit League Player of the Year honors, Scheierman dominated in two years at Creighton. The Aurora, Neb., native became the 11th men’s player in NCAA history to score 1,000 points or more at multiple Division I schools.

As a senior at Creighton, Scheierman was named a Second Team All-American by Field of 68 and 247Sports, and Third Team All-American by the AP, NABC, USBWA, ESPN.com, The Sporting News, CBSSports.com and College Hoops Today. The unanimous All-BIG EAST choice averaged 18.5 points, 9.0 rebounds and 3.9 assists per game while starting all 35 games for a Bluejay team that returned to the Sweet 16. He ranked first in BIG EAST in defensive rebounding, three-pointers per game and double-doubles, second in rebounding and minutes per game, fourth in scoring as well as free-throw percentage, and 10th in assists, assist/turnover ratio and in three-point percentage.

Scheierman is Creighton’s fifth NBA First Round pick in history, and first since 2017 when Justin Patton went 16th overall to the Chicago Bulls, only to be traded a short time later to the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Coached by Greg McDermott, Creighton finished the 2023-24 season with a 25-10 record, tied for second in the BIG EAST Conference, and reached the program’s third Sweet 16 in the last four years.
