HOLDREGE — New cardio equipment is coming to the Don Sjogren Community YMCA in Holdrege to give people new motivation to exercise and stay healthy.

Branch Executive Director Brett Bebensee said the YMCA’s upstairs wellness center will close at 3 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 30, to remove the current equipment. The area will be thoroughly cleaned, and the new equipment will arrive and be set up on Tuesday and Wednesday. The wellness center will reopen on Thursday, Feb. 2, with a whole new look.

“We are excited to debut this new equipment to our members and the community,” Bebensee said. “We hope it gives everyone new motivation to keep exercising or to start a new exercise routine.”

While the cardio/weight area will be closed for a few days, the walking track, gym, pool and group exercise rooms will still be available.

The new cardio equipment includes four Cross Trainers (Elliptical Machines), two Recumbent Bikes, two Power Mills (Stair Masters), two Total Body Arc Trainers and eight Treadmills. The Y will also be replacing five benches in the weight-lifting area.

Bebensee said the Power Mills (Stair Masters) are a new addition to the Y’s cardio room.

The new equipment is from Lifefitness, which is the parent company of Cybex.

“One of the main reasons we selected this brand is that the company has more than five decades of learning and growth in the fitness industry, and the equipment is 100 percent American-made,” Bebensee said. “Since this brand also includes Cybex, our entire wellness center will be serviced and supplied by the Lifefitness family of brands.”

The YMCA is dedicated to strengthening the community through programs focused on youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.
