Lincoln, Neb. — Sen. Matt Williams of Gothenburg, who represents the state’s 36th Legislative District, says discussions by Nebraska lawmakers this week to try to reach a consensus on compromise legislative and congressional redistricting plans, have been contentious. Sen. Williams says one of the issues that makes it contentious is that Nebraska is going to lose one, rural legislative district during this redistricting process and no one wants to lose their district and have it moved to the eastern part of the stateā€¦.

Williams says as of early Thursday afternoon, the sides seem to have come closer to a resolution. Sen.Williams says, time-wise, it needs to be resolved, so that lawmakers can begin debate again on general file on both the congressional map and the legislative map tomorrow (Friday), otherwise senators will miss the deadline established by the Speaker to schedule initial floor debate.
