Inspire Rehab’s season ends after loss to Central City
August 5th, 2024 | Jon Schilling

Holdrege, Neb. – The 2024 season has come to an end for the Inspire Rehab Seniors. Central City defeated Holdrege 8-0 in the Class B State Tournament. The Holdrege Seniors finished with a record of 18-13.

Monday’s elimination game at Landmark Field was the third meeting in eight days between Central City and Inspire Rehab. Holdrege was hoping to finally come away with a win over their familiar opponent. Central City had beaten Holdrege twice in last week’s B6 Area Tournament by scores of 11-9 and 6-5.

Coming off of an exciting win over Auburn the day before, Inspire Rehab felt like they may have some momentum coming into Monday’s game. Some sharp pitching from Central City’s Colbyn Peters kept the Holdrege bats relatively silent, however. Peters finished the six-inning game with just five hits allowed and one walk while striking out six.

Inspire Rehab was not without their chances. In the first and third innings, they were able to move multiple runners in scoring position with just one out. Unfortunately, Holdrege was unable to take advantage of each of those situations. Offensively, Josh Janssen led the way with two hits while Elijah Bergstrom, Lyndon Rodewald, and Trey Weaver were each able to get one hit.

Nick Weides started the game on the mound for Inspire Rehab. His outing started a little rough with three Central City runs coming across in the first inning. Third baseman Oliver Herman started the scoring with a solo home run to left field. Weides was able to settle in nicely and held Central City scoreless over the next three innings.

Kegan Steinke relieved Weides in the fifth. He started off by striking out the first two batters he faced and ending the inning two batters later. The sixth inning was when Central City put the game out of reach. With two outs and two on, Colbyn Peters launched a home run that cleared the center field fence. Those three runs gave Central City an 8-0 lead. Peters returned to the mound in the bottom of the sixth to close out the game.

Holdrege enjoyed many special moments in 2024. Diving catches, home runs, errors, baserunning mistakes, and 18 wins made for a truly memorable season. The Inspire Rehab Seniors say “goodbye” to four players who ended their Holdrege Legion Baseball careers on Monday. Clay Bohr, Beau Jensen, Zac Sundquist, and Trey Weaver have all spent considerable time improving their skills and Holdrege Legion Baseball is all the better for it.
