Holdrege Optimist Club Announces Scholarship Winners

HOLDREGE – The Holdrege Optimist Club announced its selections for their 2021 scholarships. Each scholarship was a $1,000 scholarship that is payable to each student to further their education. An applicant does not need to be affiliated with the Optimist club to be eligible to receive a scholarship.

This year, three recipients were selected:

Levi Kruse is the son of Tasha and Shane Kruse. He is a graduate of Holdrege High School and plans to attend the University of Nebraska at Kearney, pursuing a degree in mechanical engineering and physics. While at Holdrege High School, Levi was a leader on the Robotics team.

Janessa Landin is the daughter of Kristy and Jesse Landin. A Holdrege High School graduate, Janessa will be attending the University of Nebraska at Kearney pursuing a bachelor’s degree in nursing. Landin adds that she wants to return to Phelps County once she has completed her education.

Lacy Biltoft is the daughter of Lori McHenry. A Holdrege High School graduate, Lacy will be attending the University of Nebraska at Kearney. Lacy is currently enrolled in the Army National Guard and will be training to be a combat medic later this summer. Biltoft aims to continue her studies in the medical field in college.

Taylor Wiser was awarded the 2021 Rod Melroy Athletic Scholarship / CREDIT – Holdrege Optimist Club

Additionally, the Rod Melroy Memorial Athletic Scholarship was awarded to Taylor Wiser. The $500 scholarship is awarded to a Holdrege High School athlete who has participated in at least two NSAA sports per semester.

Taylor Wiser is the daughter of Tiffany and Mike Wiser. She plans on attending the University of Nebraska at Lincoln pursuing a degree in business finance and a minor in accounting. Wiser then plans to continue her education to a Masters degree in finance, ultimately resulting in becoming a financial advisor and relocating back to Holdrege.
