Holdrege Hires New Head Basketball Coach

HOLDREGE – Holdrege Public Schools has announced the new hiring of Brandt Runge as a socials studies teacher at Holdrege High School and the Head Varsity Boys’ Basketball Coach. Runge will replace Jon Karn.

Brandt and his wife Carlie both graduated from Axtell High School and attended the University of Nebraska at Kearney. While at UNK, Runge assisted and volunteered as an assistant to the Elm Creek basketball team for the 2016-17 season. He completed his student teaching at Overton, also assisting in coaching for a year. He then began teaching at Elm Creek during the 2018-19 school year, where he served as an assistant football and basketball coach. This 5 year tenure included a 4th place finish for Elm Creek at the 2019 tournament.

Runge will also have a new assistant coaching staff in place, as Matthew Thomas the head basketball coach at Dundy County Stratton will join the Duster sidelines; Austin Mishou and Dakota Burns will also assist in coaching duties.
