Loup County, Neb. — An explosion near the post office in the village of Taylor is under investigation.
The explosion on Tuesday at 3:57 p.m. destroyed a building that was formerly a grocery store. Information on social media and from a Sargent resident indicates the windows of area businesses were blown out. Damage was also reported to the post office building next door and possibly at the bar across the park from the site.
Region 26 Emergency Management Coordinator Alma Beland says the explosion is under investigation by the State Fire Marshal’s Office. Beland says there’s been no determination of the cause, but there’s some speculation…
Beland says, “I think they’re looking at gas…we don’t have gas lines here in town…but propane…I think that’s what they’re looking into. The State Marshal is checking into that…to see what that cause actually was.”
Beland says no one was in the building at the time of the explosion. The Post Office next door was closed for the day…it did suffer some damage from the blast. The explosion knocked out several windows in downtown businesses.
