Ella Jacobson commits to UNK Track and Field

Holdrege senior Ella Jacobson will be attending the University of Nebraska at Kearney next year after signing her national letter of intent on Wednesday. Jacobson will be a thrower for the Loper Track and Field team. She’ll be competing primarily in the shot put and discus events but may add javelin and hammer throw later on.

UNK assistant and throws coach Dane Tobey has been working with Jacobson since the summer of 2019. “We are really looking forward to Ella stepping foot on campus next fall,” Tobey said. “Ella has a passion for track and field…it’s always nice to visit with ones who are talented in track and field, but are also passionate about the sport.”

Jacobson said over 20 schools have contacted her, and one other school had extended an offer. A large factor in her decision has been her past work with Coach Tobey. Jacobson learned a lot in her time with Tobey. “He has shown me the way that he teaches,” she said. “It’s very consistent…he is so good at helping me.”

Her work with Tobey has continued this winter during a high school camp. “I do believe she can contribute to our program right away,” Tobey added. “She’s a great kid, someone I’ve worked with at camps and shows an ability to make adjustment.”

Ella Jacobson has enjoyed a lot of success as a Duster thrower. As a sophomore, she placed 2nd in discus at the NSAA State Track and Field Championships with a throw of 134′-09″. Last year she qualified for state in both discus and shot put, placing in the top 20 for both events.
