Dusters send 11 to state meet

Holdrege – Tuesday’s B-5 District Track and Field Meet got off to a rocky start with a few rain and lightning delays. Fortunately, the clouds gave way and the road to Burke Stadium was lit up for several student-athletes.

Holdrege High School hosted the district meet at Keifer Field. The Dusters qualified 11 athletes in seven events for the state meet that’s set to start on Wednesday, May 17 in Omaha. Of those 11 qualifiers, three finished as district champions.

Senior Bradie Medina took gold in girls pole vault with a height of 12 feet. Girls discus was won by Senior Ella Jacobson with a throw of 124 feet 5 inches. As a freshman, Emily Stutzman stood at the top of the podium in the 800 meter run with a time of 2 minutes, 23.79 seconds.

The boys and girls each placed 7th in the team standings. The Dusters will begin competition in Omaha at 9 am on Wednesday, May 17.
