Leon D. Lyon, 72 years of age, of Alma, Nebraska, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, August 19, 2022, at his home in Alma.  He was born July 14, 1950, in Holdrege, to Milburn and Leona (Carlson) Lyon.  He attended Holdrege High School, where he graduated with the class of 1968.  He attended the University of Nebraska at Lincoln, where he graduated with a B.A. in Business.

After college, Leon began a career in banking and insurance, where he enjoyed helping local farmers grow their operations for 35 years.  He also enjoyed farming and ranching with his brother Ron in rural Furnas County.

In his leisure time, he was a passionate outdoorsman.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and nearly any activity outdoors.  During his years, he owned a fishing lodge in Canada, where he hosted friends to share his passion for the outdoors.  He was active in Pheasants Forever, and was chairman of the local chapter for a number of years.  Leon enjoyed sharing this passion with many others, taking trips to hunt and fish, creating many friends along the way.

Leon enjoyed helping others in the community and was a volunteer EMT and Fireman.  He knew no stranger and was always willing to help, even when no one asked.  He was always willing to sit and have a drink, and willing to help solve your problems.  He would generously say, “Can I give you a suggestion?” or “Neat thing about it is…” He could carry a conversation, or just listen.

He was to married Becky on October 20, 2007.  He then became part of the lives of Becky’s children and became a grandfather to six grandchildren.  Leon enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and would do almost anything that they asked.  Whether it was boat rides, taking them fishing, teaching them to shoot, or traveling to see them in their activities he became their loving grandfather.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father; his brother, Wayne and wife, Janet; and other beloved relatives and friends.

He is survived by his wife Becky; two step-sons: Tyler Ferebee; and Joel (Amy) Ferebee; six grandchildren:  Dillon, Jadyn, Oswald, Ezekiel, Camilla, and Thaddeus; one brother, Ron (Nita) Lyon; along with a host of friends and family.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 23, 2022, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege, with the family greeting from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
