Leland Lawrence Schneider, 88 years of age, of Holdrege, (formerly of rural Funk, Nebraska,) went home to be with his Savior, on Monday, April 20, 2020, at the Central Nebraska Veterans Home in Kearney, Nebraska. Leland was born on January 6, 1932, on a farm north of Funk in Phelps County, the only child to Lawrence and Marie (Butt) Schneider.  He received his primary education from a rural school north of Funk, and then attended Axtell Community School in Axtell, Nebraska. Later in years, Leland received his honorary diploma from the Veterans Administration at the Axtell Community School.

Leland was inducted into the United States Army on August 31, 1951, and was honorably discharged on August 4, 1953, after serving a year and a half in Korea.  Following his discharge, Leland returned home and continued farming with his father on the family farm north of Funk.

On October 18, 1958, he was united in marriage to Delores Gardine at the Trinity Evangelical Free Church in Holdrege, and to this union the couple were blessed with three sons: Douglas Lee, Bradley David, and Brent William. The family made their home on the farm north of Funk, where Leland engaged in farming for many years. Due to declining health, he retired and turned the farming operation over to his son, Doug.  Leland then continued to remain involved observing the farm, and crops from the window of his pickup or on his 4-wheeler.

Leland was a faithful member of the Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, where he was baptized and confirmed, and served on various boards through the years. He also served on the Funk CO-OP Board; the Scandinavian Insurance Board of Axtell; and the Veterans Services Board in Holdrege.  He was also a lifetime member of the V.F.W. Post in Holdrege, where he served as past Commander.

Throughout the years, Leland enjoyed being involved, and attending his children’s and grandchildren’s activities.  During retirement, he enjoyed playing cards and having coffee with his friends. On Memorial Day 2019, Leland received a “Quilt of Honor” during a ceremony at the Nebraska Prairie Museum. It was extra special, as the quilt was made and presented to him by his daughter-in-law, Beth.

He was preceded in death by: his mother in 1964; his father in 1993; and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Roy and Hildur Gardine; Earl and Viola Gardine; Harry Gardine and Phyllis Gardine-Maaske; Ruby and Bill Richardson; Ruth Dodson; and two additional sisters-in-law in infancy.

Leland leaves to celebrate his life; his loving wife of 61+ years, Delores Schneider of Holdrege; three sons: Doug Schneider and his wife, Mary; Brad Schneider and his wife, Beth all of Holdrege; and Brent Schneider of Funk; four grandchildren: Heidi Meysenburg and her husband, Mark of Lincoln, Nebraska; Brady Schneider and his fiancé, Erin Porter of Council Bluffs, Iowa; Breanne Martin and her husband, Ross of Holdrege; and Brock Schneider and his wife, Tara of Holdrege;  five great-grandchildren: Brylee Rabe; Kolten Schneider; Barrett Schneider; Beckett Martin; and Ryker Martin; brother-in-law, Albert Gardine of Arvada, Colorado; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

There will be no memorial book signing or visitation.
