A Funeral Service for Carolyn A. Klassen will be held on Thursday, September 29, 2022, at 10:30 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Holdrege, Nebraska, with Pastor Darren Theesen officiating. Interment will follow at the Prairie Home Cemetery, Holdrege.

Carolyn Anne Klassen, 86 years of age, of Holdrege, died on Monday, September 26, 2022, at the Phelps Memorial Health Center in Holdrege, with her daughter, Jayne and grandson, J.D. at her side, following a five-week battle with cancer. Carolyn was born on January 19, 1936, in Harlan County, Nebraska, the only daughter born to Virgil and Helen (Keith) David. She graduated from Loomis High School with the class of 1954, and then pursued higher education from Kearney State College and then taught fourth grade in Grand Island, Nebraska.
On January 12, 1958, Carolyn married Marvin H. “Marv” Klassen at the Atlanta United Methodist Church. The couple made their home in Holdrege where they were blessed with one daughter, Jayne. When Jayne was attending school, Carolyn began working at the phone company and later, First Security Bank of Holdrege. She worked for 48 years for the First Baptist Church in Holdrege, as the secretary until her health began to fail in September 2022.
Carolyn enjoyed teaching Sunday school and playing the piano for church at the Atlanta Methodist Church, and playing the bells at the First United Methodist Church in Holdrege. She loved music and especially listening to Danny O’Donnell. Carolyn also enjoyed watching Nebraska Volleyball and attending her great-grandchildren’s activities. She had a deep love for her family and pets. Her pride and joy were her grandson, J.D., and three great-grandchildren.
On October 20, 2019, Carolyn received her 60-year membership from the First United Methodist Church in Holdrege.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Marv in 2017; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Henry and Eva Klassen; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Pete and Betty Klassen; and nephew, Alan Klassen; along with many extended family members.
She leaves to celebrate her life, her daughter, Jayne Ortgiesen and her husband, Larry of Atlanta, Nebraska; one grandson, James David “J.D.” Ortgiesen and his wife, Noelle of Atlanta; and three great-grandchildren: Taya, Race, and Link Ortgiesen.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 28, 2022, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege with the family greeting from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Memorials are suggested to the family for later designation.
