SAFE Center Giving Trees

[Kearney, NE} – When thinking of the holidays, peaceful and happy images of family and friends, gifts, and
delicious foods may come to mind. Families who have experienced violence in their lives may be feeling quite
the opposite of peaceful and happy.

With the holidays quickly approaching, there are great opportunities to get involved in the season of giving!
Several businesses will be displaying many of the needs for additional gifts and ongoing needs on ornaments
which decorate their Giving Trees. These trees will be displayed right before or after Thanksgiving and can be
found in Kearney at Wal-Mart at 5411 2nd Avenue, Midway Auto Outlet, at 715 Central Avenue, Innovative RX
Compounding Pharmacy at 416 W. 48th Street Suite 20, and at The S.A.F.E. Center office at 620 E. 25th, Suite 14.
In Holdrege, there is a tree at Phelps Memorial Health Center.

The community is encouraged to pull tags from the tree, purchase items, and either bring them back to the same location or to The S.A.F.E. Center for distribution to families. Last year these projects helped 57 families, consisting of 184 individuals, and also helped supply needs to The S.A.F.E. Center’s shelter. The S.A.F.E. Center is requesting that items for the holidays
be returned by December 17th to provide time for distribution to families.

Other ways to support the mission of The S.A.F.E. Center include contributions of financial donations, toiletries,
food, paper products, gift cards, and other items on the agency wish list. This list can be found at
www.safecenter.org. Those wanting to give financial gifts are encouraged to donate through the Kearney Area
Community Foundation’s Give Where You Live event on December 2nd. Divas Floral Shop and Boutique and
Edith Joi Boutique will have boxes for financial donations at their businesses during the holidays.

These gifts are always needed to sustain the needs of families as well as office and shelter operations throughout the year.
“Unfortunately, many individuals and families in our area are living with violence in their homes or have
recently left a situation and find this time stressful and challenging. Our Staff and Board of Directors are excited
to partner with the community to help make our clients’ holidays a little brighter and to give them hope and
support, especially during this difficult year”, said Nikki Gausman, Executive Director of The S.A.F.E. Center.
Create a holiday memory with your family or a culture of giving in your office with a gift to a family in need. To
