Larson Farms experiment with new weed control for soybeans| 2022 Fridays in the Field | Ep. 8

June 24th, 2022

Bob Larson of Larson Farms near Creston, Nebraska recently gave an update on his trials with wheat and organic soybeans.

This year, Larson experimented with wheat as a weed barrier for an organic soybean field. The intent was for the wheat to suppress the weeds, and then the wheat would eventually die when the organic soybeans came through.

However, due to weather, Larson said the trial did not turn out as expected. Moving forward, he’s looking at different options for the method.

“This is why we do trials…in order to learn,” said Larson.

In this year’s season of Fridays in the Field, Chad Moyer will follow along with Larson to learn more about his on-farm research and robotic dairy.
