WSC Volleyball sweeps Sioux Falls

Sophomore outside hitter Kelsie Cada recorded a match high 12 kills to go with two service aces to power #8 Wayne State in a 25-22, 25-17, 25-22 Northern Sun Conference volleyball sweep over Sioux Falls Tuesday evening at Rice Auditorium in Wayne. WSC is now 8-2 overall and 2-1 in the NSIC while USF falls to 7-4 and 2-1 in league play.

The first set was tightly contested as the Wildcats rallied from an 18-14 deficit to win 25-22. Trailing 19-17 WSC scored the next six points to take control of the set and rally for a 25-22 victory. Elly Larson and Maggie Brahmer each had three kills to pace the Wildcats.

The second set saw WSC jump out to an 8-2 lead and never trail as the Wildcats rolled to a 25-17 win. Kelsie Cada had the hot hand for the Wildcats in the set with six kills and no errors on eight attacks.

The visiting Cougars pushed the Wildcats early in the third set before WSC took control late and finished with a 25-22 set win to complete the sweep. Jazlin DeHaan, Cada and Taya Beller each had four kills to lead a balanced attack in the set.

Wayne State hit .225 in the match while holding USF to a .118 attack percentage. The ‘Cats held a 42-31 edge in kills and a 9-6 advantage in blocks. The Cougars had one more service ace than WSC 6-5.

Cada’s match high 12 kills lead Wayne State followed by DeHaan with nine. Libero Alaina Wolff had a team high 13 digs followed by Jessie Brandl with 11. Beller had six blocks followed by Rachel Walker with four. Cada had two of Wayne State’s five service aces and Walker handed out 27 set assists.

The Wildcats will be at home again Friday evening hosting Minnesota Crookston at 6 p.m.
