USDA Webinar Introduces Organic Agriculture and the National Organic Program

Consumers continue to purchase organic products, and organic sales increase every year. Many producers are interested in “growing organic” to access new markets, but they may not know where to start. Join USDA Farm Service Agency and National Organic Program (NOP) Quality Manager, Rebecca Claypool and Program Analyst Laura Gallagher to learn about the organic certification process in a webinar on Tuesday, October 11, 4:00 pm to 5:30 pm Eastern.

Rebecca and Laura will help you understand what it means to grow organically and will demystify the certification process. They’ll provide some examples of organic farming practices and explain how to find and contact an organic certifier. They will also share technical and financial assistance resources that can help you navigate the transition to organic production or support your existing organic farm or ranch.

Here’s a little more about our expert speakers:

  • Rebecca Claypool is the National Organic Program’s (NOP) Quality Manager in the Office of the Deputy Director, and has been with the NOP since 2016 when she joined as an Accreditation Manager and Auditor. Rebecca received her Master’s degree in Agroecology from the University of Wisconsin Madison and ran a small mixed vegetable farm in Clyde, Wisconsin. Rebecca worked for an organic certifier as a Certification Specialist and Inspector prior to joining the NOP and now lives in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania with her family.
  • Laura Gallagher is a program analyst with the National Organic Program (NOP) where she supports projects on workforce development and organic transition. Previously, Laura worked on small farms and as an urban gardening educator in Indiana and Massachusetts. Laura received her Master’s degree in Agriculture, Food, and Environment from Tufts University. She lives in Massachusetts and enjoys exploring New England’s many stunning hikes, coastal towns, and local farms.
